You may wonder why a full-time RVing couple is concerned about all the travel restrictions that mostly relate to flying…not land travel. Quite simply, we know several Canadians who managed to escape the harsh Canadian winter by transporting their RV across the line then chartering a puddle-jumper to get state-side and now their government has changed the rules while they’re gone. It’s a nasty way to play the game, Mr. Trudeau!
For the past couple of weeks, Canadians flying home from anywhere in the world have been required to show proof of a negative covid-19 PCR test before being allowed to board the plane. They were then required to quarantine for 14 days at their place of residence…just to be on the safe side.
But not anymore! As of January 29, 2021 the Canadian government has recently inflicted harsher travel restrictions on Canadian citizens who want to return home to Canada. In the words of Inigo Montoya, “Let me ‘splain”.
I think the best way to explain this first restriction is to directly quote from the Government of Canada’s website:
“The government and Canada’s airlines have agreed to suspend all flights to and from Mexico and Caribbean countries until April 30, 2021. This will be in effect as of January 31, 2021.”
Please note that this disruption in service was announced a mere 2 days before being put in effect. So, if you’ve been escaping the brutal Canadian winter in the sunny Caribbean or Mexico, good luck trying to book a flight home! And so begins the understanding that our Prime Minister really doesn’t care about the citizens of Canada.
Fewer airports should help “stop the spread”, right?
Guys, I’m not even making this stuff up!! As of today, February 3, 2021, we now have only FOUR airports receiving international flights. Here’s the quote directly from the GOC website:
“Further, effective midnight (11:59 PM EST) February 3, 2021, in addition to proof of a negative pre-departure test, Transport Canada will expand the existing international flight restrictions which funnel scheduled international commercial passenger flights into four Canadian airports: Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Calgary International Airport, and Vancouver International Airport. The new restrictions will include scheduled commercial passenger flights arriving from the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America, which were exempted from the previous restriction. Private/Business and charter flights from all countries will also be required to land at the four airports.”
Take a quick peek at a Google map and see how far apart these airports are in the second-largest country in the world. If you happen to live any distance away from these locations, how are you going to get home? Pay for a connecting flight? Rent a car and drive in the dead of winter while staying at hotels, eating in your car, and visiting several gas stations along the way? Hope you have lots of extra cash left over from your visit with Grandma in Texas. And I do mean a LOT of extra cash, ’cause we’re just getting warmed up…
But you can’t go home just yet…
“Trudeau also announced a new mandatory PCR testing requirement at airports for people returning to Canada. He said that while these travellers wait for this COVID-19 test result, they’ll be forced to quarantine for up to three days at a designated hotel – on their own dime.
Trudeau added that the cost for this is “expected to be more than $2,000.”
“Those with negative test results will then be able to quarantine at home under significantly increased surveillance and enforcement,” Trudeau said.”
So, let’s just do the math. If a couple were staying in Florida for the winter due to health reasons and are ready to come home soon, they will have to spend over $4000 just to be locked down in a hotel room while they wait for their PCR test results. If they’re both negative, they will then be allowed to go directly home under “enhanced supervision” to quarantine for the remainder of 14 days (remember that they could potentially live several hundred miles from their designated airport since only 4 airports are open!).
Do these rules apply even if you’ve been vaccinated? Or already had “the vid”? Yes, sir, they do. I suppose this displays the government’s lack of confidence in the vaccine or in the natural immunity acquired with recovering from a virus. Please don’t tell me these rules and lockdowns are based on real science and data!
What if you test positive?
For any critical-thinking, independent, Canadian who believes they live in the “true north strong and free”, hold onto your touque ’cause this one’s a doozie!
“If they receive a negative test result, they can go home to quarantine with enhanced supervision, which Trudeau says includes private security, which his government has recently hired. But if the test is positive, they will be taken to a government facility.”
Why does this make my skin crawl? Can anyone say “Covid Camp”?
What’s the big deal? Doesn’t all this keep us safe?
If we were dealing with a virus that was truly dangerous to the majority of the population, I would most likely agree with many of these restrictions in place. But, we’re not. Contrary to popular media propaganda, a normal human being with an internet connection can easily do their own research, crunch a few numbers, and see that all this hysteria is unreasonable, ridiculous, and dangerous to our humanity.
From personal experience, we know several people who have tested positive for covid-19 (of differing variants) and have come through it just fine. Some have a bit more of a struggle than others, but with proper treatment – yes, there are successful treatment options out there – and a strong immune system we have nothing to fear.
Special note here *if you have a weakened immune system, please be careful and protect yourself like you would during any flu season. We care about you and want you to stay safe. -Kent & Lisa
According to Worldometer, you have a 97% chance of surviving this thing! This is GREAT NEWS and we should be telling people they’re going to be okay!!
And if you’re concerned about overwhelming our health care systems, only 0.4% of current active cases are in serious or critical condition.
*these numbers fluctuate hourly so this is the information I found as of the evening of 02/03/21.
More truth bombs
I know many people will be questioning our perspective on all of this and will be curious about where we get our information that is contrary to popular opinion and belief.
The Great Barrington Declaration – a document signed by over 54,500 Medical and Public Health Scientists and Practitioners around the world- states that “As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.” If you take a moment to read through their statements, you will find a very balanced view that shows compassion and care for both the vulnerable sector of our society AND the mental, economical, and personal health of the rest of our population.
So much attention is given to “active cases”, but has anyone stopped to consider what that actually means? Many people who test positive for covid-19 have very mild to no symptoms, many more have moderate symptoms (ie. seasonal flu), and a small handful (less than 1% according to worldometer stats) have acute symptoms. Lots of cases with minute numbers of severe outcomes should be celebrated! It means we are getting closer to herd immunity which protects everyone.
While we celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have passed on before us, we all realize that our days are already numbered. This virus is the most dangerous to those who are over 80 and this inspires me to live every day to the fullest, to embrace each moment we have… and that simply cannot be achieved by locking everyone in their basements and forbidding them to go live their dreams.
We have talked to many elderly people who are precious to us, and their general opinion is that they want to be FREE TO CHOOSE whether they stay home in self-isolation or visit their grandkids for hugs and snuggles.
Having the freedom to live your life is very different than merely keeping you alive!
Incidentally, the average life expectancy for an Albertan is roughly 85 years old and was slightly higher in 2020 than in 2018. And I also find it very interesting when our Health Officers tell us we’re in danger of overwhelming the healthcare system. This chart shows that there are 94 people in ICU out of 8,515 acute care beds in the province.
Normal Death Rates
I get it. Nobody likes to talk about death, but I think it’s important to look at the real numbers so here’s a chart for your perusal. As you can see, there is a slight increase in deaths in 2020, but certainly not of dire proportions calling for a lockdown of all Canadian citizens infringing on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms! These numbers were taken from Stats Canada, and I encourage you to go do your own research… but be sure to grab a cup of coffee before you take a dive down the rabbit hole!
I think it’s pathetic that Justin Trudeau and his bureaucrats put these costly and economically devastating restrictions into place so quickly and without warning; leaving many Canadians stranded abroad and financially unable to return to their own country. It’s shameful, really.
It is possible that we are on the approach to, what the Bible calls, the end of days. Maybe we’re on the verge of the last days and maybe those days are still decades or centuries away from now. The point is, NOW is the time to re-prioritize our lives. May I humbly and sincerely offer a few suggestions?
~ Make things right with your Creator. God made you and He loves you so much that He wants you to live for all eternity with Him but here’s the thing; He is holy and doesn’t allow sin into heaven so that creates a barrier between us and our relationship with Him. But here’s the best news ever; He made a way through that barrier!! He sent His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place (’cause the only way to pay for all that sin is death) then He raised Jesus from the dead so we could have eternal life. And it never ceases to amaze me, that the only thing WE have to do is believe in Jesus. Wow, what an incredible gift.
~ Another suggestion I have is to stop watching mainstream media… or at least bring some balance by finding other news sources that might be more inclined to show the other side of the numbers, the pandemic, and the issues at hand. Here are a couple of places I like to go for a different point of view:
The Highwire with Del Bigtree – a medical investigative journalist
Rebel News – a privately-funded Canadian news source
~ Do your own research and crunch your own numbers. Be a truth seeker and don’t give in to the fear-mongering.
~ Let’s all remember to be kind to one another and have compassion since we don’t know someone else’s story, background, or current situation. We won’t all agree with the policies, restrictions, interpretation of data, etc. but we must remember that we’re all humans of equal value. Be nice to each other.
Thank you for letting us share our concerns and for bringing truth to the narrative that’s being pushed in our world today. Even though it feels like things are spinning out of control, I believe God’s got the whole world in His hands and I trust in His plan; even when I don’t understand it.
